Performing a Search

In the middle of the home page, there is a box where you can search key words, full text, or images. Keywords is a more general text, whereas full text is more specific.You can also click on the Advanced Search link to search more specifically.
When you click on this link, you are taken to another page where there are three boxes that allow you to limit or expand your search. They are titled:
  • Search For Words or a Phrase- you can search for a specific word or group of words. You can also search for the month, day, and year.
  • you can search specifically for text of: encyclopedia articles, primary sources, e-books, literary criticism, U.S. Supreme Court cases, U.S. Presedential papers, dictionary, tables, back in time, special reports, web sites, research guides, and timelines by checking the box to the left of the words. You can also search for maps, images, videos, or animations.
  • Browse Options- you can search by title: encyclopedia articles, maps, bles, sounds, images, animation, videos, back in time articles, special reports, research guides.
  • Boolean Search- encyclopedia articles, primary sources, e-books, literary criticism, U.S. Supreme Court cases, U.S. Presedential papers, dictionary, tables, back in time, special reports, web sites, research guides, timelines or word docments by checking the box to the left of the words. You can also search for maps, images, videos, or animations. For searcing two words together, you can select and/or and type in your words.

  • World Book Kids- offers simple navigation, thousands of colorful illustrations, plus student activities.
  • World Book Students- includes thousands of articles, state-of-the art multimedia, editor-reviewed Web sites, periodicals, and more.
  • World Book Advanced- features primary source documents and ebooks fully integrated with the encyclopedia content. Research and teaching tools include timelines, citation builder, and saved research.
  • Custom Training Guide- provides descriptions and recorded tutorials of the features and functionality of all World Book sites.
  • World Book Online for Kids- includes easy-to-read articles and engaging multimedia, games, science projects, interactive tools, and activities.
  • World Book Online Finder- offers science fair projects, a Biography Center, links to world newspapers, 21st century research guides, and much more.

  • World Languages- offers L'Encyclopédie Découverte and Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos for beginning students; and Gran Enciclopedia Hispánica for more advanced Spanish speakers.
  • Early Peoples- an exploration of the history and cultures of civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans; Australian Aborigines; Aztecs; Incas; Maori; Native Americans; Polynesians; and Chinese.
  • World Book Discovers- features read-aloud, translations, more video, and clear, easy-to-read articles.
  • Inventions and Discoveries- explores the transformative impact of the inventions and discoveries that continue to shape our world today.
  • World Book Classroom Dramatic Learning- uses plays, skits, and monologues to expand proven approaches to building reading fluency and content comprehension.
  • Living Green- explores environmental issues and current efforts to reduce human impact on the environment.
